Marble, Travertine, Limestone?

Many people ask about the implications of using softer stones, like marble, travertine, limestone, etc. Their milder, lighter colors are attractive to homeowners and designers alike.


One has to keep in mind that the Europeans have been using these softer rocks for thousands of years and they are still looking good! Yes, they do scratch, stain and fade when compared to granite but that is part of their look, which stabilizes after a while. A good example is the marble floors in many high rise buildings: everyone loves them, but upon a closer look one can notice the many scratches caused by all the traffic these floors are subjected to on a daily basis!
